health1

The B family of vitamins consists of B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5, B6, and B12. Although each is chemically distinct, the B vitamins coexist in many of the same foods and often work together to bolster metabolism, enhance immune and nervous system function, maintain healthy skin and muscle tone, and promote cell growth and division. They may also relieve stress, depression, and cardiovascular disease. While our Supreme Court Justices debate the constitutionality of Obamacare, our country isn’t getting any healthier. It is important to remember that whether it passes or not, this healthcare law will not make us healthier as individuals or a country. This bill is about how much money healthcare costs and how to lower the cost of care. What we really need is a proactive approach to healthcare that makes us a healthier people and therefore helps us to save money on healthcare costs.

One of the biggest reasons for individuals and families claiming bankruptcy is the cost of medical care. As is well documented, the cost of medical care is getting more expensive. In 2009, healthcare costs were 17.3% of our gross domestic product. By 2017, it is estimated that more than 21 cents of every dollar spent in this country will be on healthcare. On an individual level, healthcare costs an average of $1,500 more for an obese person than that of a person maintaining a healthy weight. If we have learned anything from families, it is that medical costs will bankrupt you as it overtakes your ability to cover other expenses. Eventually, medical costs will bankrupt the good old USA if we don’t do something about it.

Fortunately, there is a major bright spot. Obesity, which is responsible for increasing a lot of risk factors for certain diseases is preventable in most cases. Approximately 80% of obesity related illnesses are preventable simply by diet and exercise and living a generally healthy lifestyle. Thus, if individuals learn how to make smarter health and fitness choices, we can start saving our healthcare dollars for those people who really need it. Those individuals whereby diet and exercise alone cannot help themselves. Thus lowering our overall healthcare expense.

Medical Malpractice – Does An Ineffective Result Mean Malpractice Occurred

health18

Medical malpractice is a niche area of the general civil law field of negligence. It can be a complex area of law. One of the questions that arises from a more practical point of view is whether an ineffective treatment by a doctor constitutes malpractice?

The medical field has changed radically over the years. It wasn’t that long ago patients believed their doctors could do no wrong. The commercialization of the medical care industry has changed that as much of the doctor-patient relationship has been interrupted. This has resulted in a rise in the number of medical malpractice cases being filed across the country.

So, does the result of a treatment mean that the doctor made a legal mistake? Well, anyone that watches medical dramas like House or ER probably knows the answer to that. It is no. Medicine has come a long way, but it is not a cure all for every health situation. Diagnosis can be difficult and so can treatments. The fact a treatment does not work is not per se an indication that malpractice has occurred. If it was, the medical field would be frozen into inaction because of a fear of being sued.

How then do we tell if a physician committed a legal wrong? The answer is in the process. Every condition presented to a medical professional calls for a minimum level of care that should be formed. In this case, the care would include everything from steps of diagnosis to actual treatment. This minimum level is known by the name “standard of care”. So long as a doctor meets the minimum standard of care, he or she cannot be found to have committed malpractice regardless of whether the patient is cured or not.

The standard of care in any case is determined by expert testimony. The experts are doctors in the area who can testify as to what the minimum level of care should have been in the particular case. The defendant and plaintiff each designate an expert for this purpose. You will no doubt be shocked to learn that each tends to present a very different view of what the minimum is and whether the defendant doctor met it. How are these differences dealt with in court? A jury of individuals who have no medical training at all decide!

Everything You Need To Know About Vitamins And Minerals – Find Resources

health15

You hear a lot about vitamins and minerals, but do you have any idea if you are getting what you need? You probably are, for the most part. There are times when we don’t however, and this direct us to a very interesting theory. My mom offered me a book she had read a while back, and it stated that those who don’t get the right vitamins and minerals each day might get sick easier and also might walk around with unusual cravings.

I read the book and it got me thinking about a teacher I had in seventh grade. This person was your classic teacher, even if he was not very animated. Many times he would eat the chalk he had in the classroom. Though we thought it was funny at the time, I never thought there was a reason why he did it. May be it had something to do with the amount of vitamins and minerals in his diet? I am not sure, but this book told me it was. It’s a fascinating theory. But would it makes us eat chalk if our body craves for vitamins and minerals it is not getting?

So this might explain why you crave certain foods. That’s certainly not as awful as eat chalk, but this could elucidate odd cravings, especially during pregnancy. Pregnant women require more vitamins and minerals than anyone else, and they must to be sure they get them. Do they have to ask for Italian dressing and hotdogs in the middle of the night if they aren’t getting the vitamins and minerals for themselves as well as what they need for their growing baby? I don’t know.

I {really don’t know if a lack of important vitamins and minerals might explain cravings, even though the man who wrote the book made some excellent points. What I do believe is that if you are dieting you deal with cravings every day, and perhaps if you make sure your amount of vitamins and minerals is what it should be might just stop a few of those crazy urges that make you over eat. Even though it’s just a theory, maybe if you make sure you take a daily vitamin it might help you to stop your cravings just in case it works. If you take up a diet plan that ensures you get the right foods each and every day, perhaps that, along with the vitamins, might give you the head start you need to keep on track. Just don’t eat chalk, ok?

Vitamins Are Needed In Stopping Acne

health10

Many sufferers use drugstore creams and lotions with benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or sulfur in stopping acne. Dermatologists may also prescribe antibiotics or additional vitamin A sources to alleviate this condition. Vitamins A, B, E, are important for the skin’s vitality and are provided by fruits, vegetables, fiber, protein, and water. Decreasing high-fat foods and omitting milk products and salt should also be undertaken. Also, natural ways using juices and herbs to ease symptoms.

Teenagers and Adults Are Affected- Puberty-stricken teenagers and adults from every ethnic background suffer from this skin ailment. It is caused by plugged skin pores from hormones and other substances in the oil-producing glands and hair follicles.

Greasy skin that causes this condition is a result of heredity, greasy makeup and moisturizers, or a greasy workplace such as a fast-food restaurant. Sports clothing such as uniforms and helmets that fit to tightly will also cause this situation. Environmental factors such as pollution and humidity are also factors.

Food Recipes for Skin Cleansing- The skin needs vitamins to look and feel its best. Skin cleansing products made from natural herbs and fruits are excellent alternatives to over the counter products. Place two tablespoons of dried elderflower and one chamomile teabag in a cup, pour boiling water over the herbs and cover for ten minutes.

Then strain and permit to cool before applying daily four times. A different choice of herbs would be to use three and a half ounces of dried lemon balm leaves, one chamomile tea bag, and three quarter ounces of dried mint leaves instead. This can sit for just six minutes before straining, applying and cooling daily one time.

Combining two parts fresh cabbage juice, two parts fresh carrot juice, and one part fresh blueberry juice and then apply it to the skin allows vitamins A, B, and sulfur. A refreshing peel-off mask can be created by combining an envelope of no flavored gelatin with a half cup of boiled fresh fruit juice and any of the just-mentioned herbs. After cooled and almost set, and then peel off after completely dry.

Other routine ways to stopping acne are as simple as shampooing hair on a daily basis to get rid of any excess oil. Men should soften their skin before shaving by gently washing their face first, and women should change the brand of makeup they use in case the ingredients are causing an allergic reaction.

Parallels Drawn Between Hospital Patient Experiences and Employee Satisfaction

health19

There have been many studies conducted in a variety of industries linking job satisfaction and customer satisfaction, and all seem to point in one direction: there is a distinct correlation that when happy employees provide services to the public, customer satisfaction prevails.

In an extensive study performed in a major New York City Hospital in 2006, an Employee Engagement Advisory Committee was created to gather feedback from all areas of the hospitals workforce. These areas included administrative and non-clinical staff, service personnel, nurses and physicians and all were asked their own evaluations of employee loyalty and retention. This feedback enabled the committee to identify the hospitals strongest and weakest areas in job satisfaction which lead them to a better understanding of how to motivate involvement and effort.

Another important topic undertaken by the advisory committee was on Employee Engagement.
After many forums and hundreds of comments were gathered, it became concisely clear that engaged employees at their hospital make personal commitments to their jobs and take pride and in their entire organization and the care of their patients.

Just as patient care is adversely affected when poor morale and job satisfaction are inherent, particularly in the nursing industry, that level of care is positively impacted when nurses are given more decision making power and have a strategic role in the care of their patients. Follow-up patient surveys have proven that nurses who are encouraged to take a more active role in their jobs, have higher levels of patient safety and fewer medical errors recorded.

The most commonly used methods in the Health Care
Industry promoting employee engagement and retention are:

– Management accessibility and leadership styles
– Organizational communication
– Recognition programs
– Company reputation
– Empowerment in decision making
– Access to training, resources and opportunity

Hospital Administrators who incorporate policies of employee well being and engagement while on the job, report that they are encouraged and satisfied when they see the reductions in recruitment and retention costs, a dramatic reduction in absenteeism, along with lower patient costs.

Religion And Yoga

health15

A religious rights leader in the US recently sparked off a debate with his comments on the inappropriateness of Yoga for those of the Christian faith. Arguments have since flown fast and thick on all sides over the linking of Yoga with specific religions.

As a proponent of Yoga as the ultimate challenge for the attainment of holistic wellness, I have been extremely pained to read all things related to the matter. For one, I havent been able to fathom the reasons as to why this should even be thrown on the table.

It is true that Yoga originated in India, the same country which produced great religious systems such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism. Indeed, India is one of the two regions of the world which has been the cradle of religious thought, the other being the Middle East which produced Christianity, Islam, Judaism et al.

However, Yoga at its best is a philosophical system which is thought to lead to self-realization. For as long as it has existed, there have been no religious incantations associated with the practice, nor does it propagate the worship of any one supreme figure. It is infact philosophical and not iconic in any way.

The Yogic systems prevalent today are a fragment of an entire pristine system, and are mostly only corporeal; they strive to keep the body healthy through various poses and breathing techniques. The only Hindu connotation I have found evidence of, is the sounding of the syllable Om while breathing, which is also equally construable as a shortening of Amen. Interestingly, Om and Amen have similar meanings and origins as well.

I personally know scores of people of various religious beliefs following Yoga, and who have found no conflict between their religion and the practice. Yoga, which is devoid of any religious connotations is even widely practiced by atheists who would have otherwise shunned it in the name of religious circumvention.

My personal experience tells me that one neednt even go deep into research, because a quick online search will point to the fact that Yoga is linked with environmentalism, healthy food habits, exercise, fitness and mostly good health, but definitely not with any strong religious associations. Even specifically searching for a link did not yield any results to indicate the gentlemans concerns that Yoga is a symptom of postmodern spiritual confusion.

I came across an interesting and relevant blog here which I understand to be a product of a mature and analytical mind.

I would be happy to understand just how practicing Yoga is a shameful act as the US Baptist has claimed. Looking forward to your thoughts, as usual.
